Two NHSTE awards are presented each year at the Christa McAuliffe Technology
Conference:

1.  The NHSTE Technology Using Educator Award is named in memory of Pat Keyes; a former secondary teacher in the Keene School District who served NHSTE in many capacities including editor of the NHSTE Connections.


2.  The NHSTE Technology Impact Award is named in memory of Susan Janosz, longtime employee of the Manchester School District who was employed as a Technology Integrator.

Who is Maria Knee? 

She is “The Kinderkids” Classroom Teacher! 

Maria is an exemplary, model educator who uses technology to enrich the lives of each of her students. 

“From using digital microscopes with her primary aged students to investigate the pond in her classroom to capture “real life” images of the creatures that live there, to the blog that her class has developed which allows her students to connect with worldwide buddies, Maria’s students’ lives are enriched by the experiences she consistently shares with them and their families.” 

Maria is a caring individual, a tireless champion for helping others understand the power that technology has in helping kids to grow as learners. 

Maria is an inspiration to all of us!

OVERVIEW:
NHSTE gives out two kinds of awards: (1) We recognize two outstanding technology educators at the McAuliffe Conference (this is our annual awards) and (2) We also give out grants based on specific themes.

ANNUAL AWARDS
We send out a call for nominations in early fall.  Award nominees are reviewed by a committee and choices are made. Winners are presented their award, plus a prize of $1000, at the McAuliffe Conference.
The two awards are: Pat Keyes Technology-Using Teacher Award and Technology Impact Awards.  The criteria are:

NHSTE Pat Keyes Technology-Using Educator Award:

Functioned as a public or private K-16 teacher providing direct instruction in a New Hampshire school(s).
Developed effective units integrating educational technology.
Demonstrated improved student performance with application of technology.
Shared ideas/initiatives in formal and informal arenas using traditional and electronic methods.
Demonstrated ethical/moral policies regarding technology use.
Promoted equitable access to technology resources for all populations.

NHSTE Technology Impact Award:

Provided leadership in a public or private K-16 New Hampshire school(s).
Had a positive impact on technology locally and/or regionally.
Identified and solicited grants and/or community partnerships to facilitate technology integration.
Demonstrated ethical/moral policies for technology use which set a model for the district.
Supported technology within the context of school reform, restructuring and improvement.
Demonstrated a commitment to ongoing self-education by keeping abreast of emerging technologies.
In the past, this award has gone to: Superitendents, Principals, Media Center Staff, Curriculum People, Tech Coordinators.
