The NH CTO Council is holding a workshop for K-12 network and system administrators on May 19, 2017 from 9am to 2pm in Concord. This event is free for districts that are a member of the NHCTO council!

One-to-One 101 and Hyper-convergence

Morning Topic: One-to-One 101

We will discuss 1-1 computing initiatives. Several school districts which have implemented 1-1 programs for students will discuss lessons learned, what to expect, how to prepare and what they would do differently. This includes preparing the network, becoming a certified hardware repair center, mobile device management and logistics (cases, chargers, printing etc).

Afternoon Topic: Network Storage, Hyper-convergence and Virtualization

At the heart of most modern networks is storage and virtualization. Traditional SANs are still widely used however with the advent of Hyper Convergence some schools are consolidating storage back into the virtualized hosts to save complexity, increase redundancy and ease management.  We will look at the pros & cons of these new systems, talk to schools who have implemented as well as those that have not and why.

We will also look at Hyper-V and VMware and compare / contrast these two virtualization platforms. Virtual desktops may also be discussed.

There will also be time for an open forum & networking. Please feel free to bring any topics, questions, concerns, or projects you are working on or thinking about as well.

Registration is capped at 30 participants and last spring we filled the room, so don’t wait! If your school district is a current NHCTO member we will be sending a registration code for free registration. If you are not yet a NHCTO (CoSN) member, now is a great time to consider joining. The cost of the event for nonmember districts is $25 and lunch is included.
