Inq-ITS (www.inqits.com) online virtual labs for grades 5-10 science helps students learn authentic NGSS science practices while also cutting teachers' grading time. They score themselves based on how students "show what they know" when conducting investigations, not based on answering multiple choice or fill-in-the-blank questions. Because of the automatic grading, students can get immediate, personalized feedback from Rex the Dinosaur, a virtual coach who helps them improve at the practices. Teachers can get two types of real-time data on their students' competencies: Inq-Blotter alerts that help them identify when and how their students struggle, and summary reports of student and class performance to demonstrate growth.
